The Crafty Floridian

I am a wife, a mother, an educator and an artist. I was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I spent my childhood in New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Millersville University of Pennsylvania. After graduating in 1997, I moved back to South Florida and have spent the last twenty years living in Florida where my husband and I have been raising our three beautiful children. I am an experienced gallery docent. I received my training at the Foosaner Art Museum – Florida Institute of Technology and from the Orlando Museum of Art. I have a strong passion for introducing the public to the interactive world of art and providing engaging learning experiences for all museum visitors. I have a deep interest in the study of the human mind and human behaviors. I have always been very interested in famous artists who suffer/suffered from mental illness. I find the link between creativity and mental illness to be very fascinating. I often find myself seeking out content where psychology meets art because of my love for both subjects. In 2010, I began volunteering in the Broward County public school system for the Meet the Masters Art Education Program. I very much enjoyed art education at the elementary level. Not only was it extremely fun, it was an incredible hands-on learning experience for me. I quickly realized that I was reading about art but I wasn’t creating any art. I could tell you all about Romanesque architecture and how Michelangelo suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder but I simply wasn’t in touch with my creative self. I credit Meet the Masters with awakening my inner artist. I went from approaching art as a subject of study to embarking on a journey to find myself as an artist. I am an abstract artist. I stumbled upon fluid art in 2017 and I really enjoy exploring all of the endless fluid painting techniques. I also enjoy taking old items and giving them new life.
