About the mission: the NASA Psyche mission is a robotic journey to a metal-rich asteroid, (16) Psyche, orbiting the Sun between Mars and Jupiter. The Psyche asteroid is unique because it may consist largely of metal from the core of an early planetesimal, one of the building blocks of our solar system. The mission was chosen for NASA’s Discovery Program on January 4, 2017. The mission is led by Arizona State University and managed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
