Larissa BREA Photography

Born in La Romana, Dominican Republic. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Advertising. It all began in high school, when she would make her way through the school grounds snapping pictures of her classmates with her mother’s 110mm camera. During her college years, she signed up for a basic photography class. This time, her father’s Canon A1 was her camera of choice. Several of her photographs were selected for an exhibition at the conclusion of the semester. After graduating in 1992, Larissa distances herself from photography, both for lack of time and the high cost of processing and printing of film. It was not until 9 years later, married and living in the United States, that she finds herself with her very own Canon Rebel G taking pictures of her first daughter. During this time in her life, photography was just entertainment. Soon after the digital revolution in photography, Larissa purchases her first HP and almost immediately a Canon Digital Rebel XT. By 2006, her husband’s work brings her to live to the island of Sint Maarten in the Caribbean and she is immediately captivated by the colors of the region. The natural beauty of the island inspired Larissa to take the pictures she captures today. Her curiosity for the art of photography explodes into her passion. She has been partial to action photography, with a trend towards the abstract, always with strong colors leaning towards red. Being a photographer, she is able to showcase her art through different viewpoints, experiment and express her pictures with strong colors and textures, details and making small things seem big. Her photographs are full of optimism. She also showcases her love of reflections in her compositions as well as the effects of light and close ups. After two years on the island of Sint Maarten, her family returned to their permanent residence in the United States, which means, other inspirations, other subjects, other colors to be seen by her and imprisoned in her camera. Presently, she is working on her first exhibition of her photographs in her home country. She is also planning to continue to explore different avenues and methods to showcase her passion
