I have always had a love of nature and respect for its beauty. As a child, the woods surrounding our farm was my playground. I was in my late twenties before I tried my hand at capturing that beauty on film. Photography has been my creative outlet now for the past ten years.When not out in the field, I am fortunate to be an instructor at a local community college in North Carolina where I teach various biology courses. Since biology is a study in observation, photography seems to be a natural extension of my work. I've been especially drawn to macro photography. Nature holds a symmetry that this style of photography elegantly captures. Macro photography magnifies a beauty that can sometimes sit just outside our normal viewpoint. The photo collections are mostly made up of this style using various subjects. There are some landscape images, in a style commonly called "intimate landscapes". I enjoy finding quiet, small pieces of the world rather than capturing majestic landscapes. Being a teacher and father of two young boys, travel is limited anyway. But there are always plenty of small scenes to capture. I have also enjoyed an abstract device that can be simply described as "camera shake". It involves moving the camera during long exposures. All images were taken in North Carolina. I usually work in my backyard or at local parks and rivers. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I have enjoyed taking them.
