À propos

The hangman’s noose was a vital tool for maintaining law and order in the American Frontier — nowhere more famously than in the historic placer mining camp, aptly dubbed “Hangtown.” Located in California’s Sierra Nevada foothills, Hangtown attracted thousands of fortune-seekers during the mid-19th century Gold Rush. A true Wild West town, both gold and lawlessness abounded. To maintain civility, its founders were forced to implement vigilante justice using a variety of methods – hanging being the most notable. Officially renamed Placerville in 1854, Hangtown’s legacy continues to live on in the pioneering spirit of its present-day citizens, many of whom consider the hangman’s noose a symbol of the town’s rich history as well as stark reminder that freedom comes at a price. » All of Hangtown Mercantile's products are locally designed by a proud Placerville native. « | Quick tip: Click on "Collections" to easily search for products that feature the same/similar design. | Can't find what you're looking for?
