Girls and boys have the similar fitness levels, at least until they hit puberty. Then why do we tell her that she can't run as fast or jump as high as the boys? Do you know what happens when he is allowed to swings on ropes, jump off rocks, climb trees and she’s not? He realises that all sorts of magic can happen when we learn to dance with fear. While she starts believing in the narrative that ‘it's cute to be scared’. She too can be a coder, an engineer, a gamer, but only if we let her. He too won’t shy from learning ballet, or from showing his gentle side, but only if we let him. Let her do backflips off the monkey bar and maybe one day she won’t hold herself back for the fear of coming across as ‘too bossy’. Let him cry, feel what he needs to feel and maybe one day he won’t repress his emotions and suffer in silence, for the fear of being seen as a sissy. Raise her to be brave. Raise him to be kind. It’s about time we fight the gender stereotype. Oh and.. Girls CAN like Star Wars. Boys CAN like Elsa. And cooking is NOT a girls’ thing; it's a life skill.
