Howdy! I am a slightly 'parking privileged' person, living in the more or less rural part of Wharton County, TX (Zone 9a for those who are keeping track of such things). I am new to gardening in this type of climate, though I love the chance to grow all of those lovely sub-tropicals I've always dreamed of... I have been a Navy Brat and a Navy Wife and have traveled over and through much of this great nation of ours. We have moved to a one acre piece of land that I fully intend to cover with floral and vegetable/herbal gardens; and chickens. (Best thing I've found to keep down the mice and fire ants is a good flock of hungry heirloom chickens.) So far, I've managed to irritate Darling Adorable and get some things growing. Otherwise? I sew (whatever, whenever and for whomever will pay!), read everything in sight and have a fascination with natural fibers, historical recreation (not that I do it anymore, but I can help others), and critters of all shapes and sizes.
