I have been drawn to working with textiles and illustration since I was a little girl. I am highly influenced by members of my family, and by the Arts and Crafts, Art Decor and Art Nouveau movements. My Nana used to create usable fabric items from larger, repurposed items, did embroidery and tatting. I feel close to her when I’m creating my own fabric art pieces. My illustrations are often based on one of a kind fabric art pieces I create, and sometimes are just images from my imagination. My Mom, Grandma Donna, Grandpa Clayton and Grandma Martha were all amateur artists, and I feel close to them when I’m illustrating. I have a BFA in design and a MS in Historic Preservation and Restoration, and love to combine my love of creating with my love of preservation by using up cycled and repurposed materials. I have always loved books and started reading by the age of 2. I love to portray the things I see in real life in sweet, simple stories that are fun to illustrate. My children’s books are engaging early readers for young children age 0-5. I kid test every book before I publish with my editors-my young nieces and nephews. They are exceptionally honest! In my spare time I am the proud human of a guinea fowl named Charlie and a labbe named Penny, who are a source of light and laughter every day.
