À propos
I am an artist and paper sculptor from Cambridge. After graduating from Norwich School of Art in 1998, I began working as an academic bookseller. In 2010, tasked with creating a unique and eye catching Christmas window display, I began a series of book sculptures inspired by folk and fairy tale imagery. The sculptures were auctioned for charity.
Drawing upon ideas of childhood memory and the immersive nature of stories I continued to make new works for both private and commercial clients. I use a children’s story, novel, or vintage book illustration as the starting inspiration for my sculptures. All of the work it cut out by hand with a scalpel with very little detailed planning of what to do, just a feeling of where I want it to finish. Where possible I try to only use materials complimentary to those used in bookbinding; books, paper and glue, with the occasional bit of electronics if lights are required.
I had a solo exhibition at the British Academy in London as part of their literature week in 2013. I am currently exhibiting new sculptures and making commissioned works for numerous clients.
My work has appeared in magazine articles and websites around the world and was featured on the BBC One Show in 2014.
