Breed Specific Legislation is racial profiling, discrimination on the deepest levels. Because it is illegal to target a race or class of people, the colorless folks in power came up with another idea. In Denver, CO when the roundup of loved pit bull dogs began, the officials did not consificate the pet pit bull dogs from the affluent households, instead targeting the homes of the less than privileged, and especially the minority owners. After all, these individuals were not likely to fight back, with little means to do so. They were the real target of intolerance and bigotry. Countless family pets were and continue to be killed senselessly, by the Gestapo like KKK authorities. Add to the trumped up false hysteria of the bully breeds is the irresponsible reporting of the news media. The media has admitted they will only report dog attacks if it involves a “pitbull” type, completely ignoring reports like a Golden Retriever mauling a child because it will not boost ratings! There is no proof any type of dog is more dangerous than another. In fact, severe bites and attacks have come from Labrador Retrievers, Huskies and even from Dachshunds and Chihuahuas. Breed Specific Legislation is pure ignorance based upon bias prejudice racism. BSL is unfair and does not work, failing to reduce bites or attacks by dogs. The problem is not on the dog’s end of the leash, rather with the person holding the leash. Training humans to be responsible in pet ownership is the first step in addressing pet behavior.
