Other than a few wonderful adopted dogs, Tessa was the first of my rescue animals. She is a stunningly powerful buckskin horse, completely wild, and stop-in-your-tracks beautiful. To think that she was pulled from from the slaughter truck and adopted three times, unsuccessfully, is difficult to understand. Here she is calm, loving, and permitted to be wild, with manners toward her loving caregivers. There have been other horses since Tessa’s adoption, beautiful and powerful creatures sent to slaughter, yet intercepted by a happy ending that was meant to be. I am blessed to be the custodian and vessel for the rest of their life story. And they are my weary soul’s therapy. Over the years, our family has expanded to include a giant flock of geese, ducks and chickens, mostly rescues from horrific situations where they were abandoned and left to fend for themselves, likely to die from starvation or a predator attack. There is also a rescued donkey, brought here to protect our growing rescue farm from predators. I am an artist with a giant passion and some recent financial challenges. It has become very difficult to keep our heads above water all by myself, yet I get calls regularly asking to accept more beautiful animals into our hearts, flock, herd, and pack. So I’m forming a non-profit rescue organization. But that takes time. And assembling legal stuff. And then fundraising. And although in progress with early stages of development, today we need feed and farrier, hay and preventive care such as worming and dental exams. I have decided to create a store where I can channel my artwork into the care and feeding of these divine beings outside my window looking in at me, or cruising the rapids on my stream while quacking with glee.
