Prince Raden Saleh - Aristocrat, Scientist and Artist - Indonesia's national hero and foremost artist was born in 1811 into the noble Indonesian Regent family of the famous Kijai Ngabehi Kertoboso Bustaman (1681-1759), a legend in his own time and directly related to the Mataram Kingdom and Sultanate. Raden Saleh lived in Europe for over 20 years, and became the royal painter many European and of course Indoesian royal families, such as HM Queen Virctoria of Great Britain.
