The name 'Vernak' derives from the word 'Vernacular' & indicates the intention of the collection; African-print themed products designed using the South African dialect known as 'tsotsitaal/slang/street-speak'. It is aimed at the metropolitan, youthful (not in age, but at heart) Nubian Queen, with a penchant for sophisticated & declaratively original pieces. The collection flaunts the popular, yet often frowned-upon dialect spoken by locals, while the words simultaneously serves as a conversation-starter. The objective is to transmit knowledge about this vernacular & disseminate this tiny fraction of South African culture through the incorporation of vibrant prints.
