Pekka Halonen, Finnish 1865-1933

Pekka Halonen painted in a Realist style, but was also influenced by Gauguin and Japanese woodcuts. He felt that "Art should not jar the nerves like sandpaper – it should produce a feeling of peace. His favorite subjects were the Finnish landscape and its people.
