Not In The Mood For The Cicada Broods

In 2024 we are treated to the emergence of not one, but two cicada broods simultaneously. The 13 year Brood XIX and the 17 year Brood XIII will come out of the ground and start screaming by rubbing their wings. Brood XIII is the Northern Illinois Brood and will be mostly found in Illinois, Iowas and Indiana. Brood XIX is known as the Great Southern Brood and could appears in Missouri, Southern Illinois, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee South Carolina and North Carolina. The fun starts in late April in the South and spreads northward as the ground warms. If you find all their racket annoying, just wait and they’ll go back underground soon to emerge in another decade or so.
