One of the top leaders in the American Suffrage Movement, she also participated actively in the British Suffrage Movement with Mrs. Emmaline Pankhurst. Arrested and jailed in both countries she endured horrible conditions and abuse but still carried on. She also drafted the Equal Rights Amendment (which still has not been ratified) and got an equal rights affirmation in the charter for the United Nations.
