Cyclops

One eye filled the brow. A cyclops bent under the lintel, huge, the Greek giant of the old cave, firelight in that single look. People felt seen all at once and nowhere else. They walked out carrying a cyclops gift of that stare. It shows again in cyclops playing cards with one mark that will not be ignored, in a cyclops notebook opened under a lamp that feels like an eye, in a cyclops postcard of the brow and the dark of the cave mouth. The fire drops. The eye does not close.
