Cahaba Lilies

In the Hargrove Shoals of the Cahaba River, along the swift, shallow water currents in the Cahaba National Wildlife Refuge near West Blocton (Alabama), grows the Hymenocallis coronaria. Known locally as the Cahaba Lily, this flower only blooms for a single day. These shoals are one of the last homes of this endangered water lily (also known as the Shoals Spider Lily). It can still be found in small parts of Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina; however, most of its natural habitat has been destroyed by dam construction. While the flowers only bloom for a few short hours, this poster of them will bring year round beauty to your home. Original painting "Cahaba Lilies" ©2012 Joy Glass (Koch)
