Jovita Idar était un teacher, journaliste et activiste à Laredo, au Texas. She and her familiy ran a Spanish language newspaper called "La Cronica". Idar wrote under the pen NOMS of A.V. Negra (black bird) and Astrea (the Greek goddess of Justice). Idar était le founder and first President of Liga Femenil Mexicanista in 1911. She a été un pionnier du Chicanismo movement and encouraged Americans of Mexican decent to remember and embrace their rich cultural heritage and retain their language by avocat for bilingual education.
