Everyday they were let out of the coop to roam. Clementine was very adventurous and dreamed of having her own cottage and garden. One day when the days were getting shorter and colder, she traveled far from the coop. When she returned the door was shut and she couldn’t get in! What was she to do! Scared and confused she flew up on a fence, only to to have the snapping jaws of a big dog pull one of her tail feathers. She flew to a big bush to hide, but the shadows were growing and before she knew it one pounced! It wasn’t a shadow at all, but a big gray cat! Clementine barely escaped it’s sharp claws. Really frightened, she flew to the low branches of an oak tree and tucking her head under fretful feathers, tried to sleep. Just then strong hands closed around her and popped her in a box. It was dark! She was there for so long she fell asleep and began to dream of her cottage and garden. When she awoke, what do you suppose? Clementine’s Christmas wish had come true. She had her own little cottage with windows to let in the sun and a delightful garden where she could cluck and croon to her delight!
