United for Peace and Justice is a coalition of more than 1,400 local and national groups throughout the United States, which have joined together to protest the Iraq War and oppose our government's policy of permanent warfare and empire-building. The United for Peace and Justice staff and National Steering Committee work together to unite the work of the peace and justice movement by:
* Organizing coordinated national program work, such as nuclear disarmament, providing alternatives to military service/counter-recruitment, legislative action, public education/issue advocacy, non-violent direct action;
* Organizing major national demonstrations and coordinating calls for local actions;
* Strengthening local and regional groups through education, outreach and networking/coalition-building assistance;
* Generating public awareness and support for the peace and justice movement.
