Hiroshi Nagai, Hiroshi Nagai Art Poster & Wall Art

Hiroshi Nagai: The City Pop Artist Who Brought California to Japan Hiroshi Nagai is a Japanese artist who is best known for his City Pop-inspired artwork. His paintings and illustrations often feature bright colors, sleek lines, and idyllic scenes of California. Nagai's work has been featured on album covers, posters, and other media, and he is considered one of the most important figures in the City Pop movement. Nagai was born in Tokushima, Japan, in 1947. He studied art at the Kyoto City University of Arts, where he was exposed to Western art and culture. After graduating, Nagai moved to Tokyo, where he began working as a freelance artist. In the 1980s, Nagai's work began to gain popularity, thanks in part to his association with the City Pop movement. City Pop was a genre of Japanese pop music that was influenced by Western genres such as disco, funk, and jazz. Nagai's artwork perfectly captured the carefree, sun-kissed spirit of City Pop, and his work began to appear on the album covers of some of the biggest City Pop stars, including Tatsuro Yamashita, Anri, and Minako Yoshida.
